waiting
i try to remember that i am only waiting
i live where the garbage trucks work overtime
the apartment garage doors need lights
they've burned out
they have nothing left to shine
the shopping cart returns again
i push it from my window's view
the tree is nicer to look at
i try to remember that i am only waiting
the sky will be here tomorrow
the birds may fly away
the leaves may take their permanent vay-cay
but the sky will be here, hopefully
transient people will go
lovers split
students sprout up like strong weeds
i am relegated to this place
where the ceilings are too low
and the carpet smells like urine
i try to remember that i am only waiting
"Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the LORD." Psalm 27:14
